breathing in the frayed ends of your clothes
as i sleep on your thighs
steeped in skin and hair
when i lay right beside you and
close my eyes
we carried in a leaf from outside
and gave it some shelter, some water
it came alive
until it grew its roots and arms and legs and
left us behind
a suitcase full of blood and bits of bone
is what's behind
the leaf that came and carved out all of our insides
so i'll drink the flowers of the trees that
stem from your eyes
